Lost River Plantation is a gated community of 111 single-family homes set along the South Fork of the St. Lucie River in Stuart. Built by Kolter Homes beginning in the early 2000s, it was designed for boaters: nearly every home sits on the water, most have a private dock in the backyard, and the river connects to the St. Lucie Inlet and the Atlantic Ocean.
The community sits on SW Lost River Road just east of Kanner Highway and I-95, which makes it one of the easiest waterfront neighborhoods in Martin County to reach by car, while still feeling tucked away behind its gates and natural preserve.
Homes in Lost River Plantation are concrete block and stucco construction, most with three-car garages, private pools, high ceilings and open, split floor plans. Typical homes offer four to five bedrooms and roughly 2,500 to 4,000 square feet of living space. Many lots back directly onto the river or a protected basin, with docks and boat lifts behind the house.
The community is made up of three neighborhoods that you will see named in MLS listings:
Private docks and waterfront homes in Lost River Plantation.Boating is the heart of life here. The South Fork leads out to the main St. Lucie River, downtown Stuart, the Indian River Lagoon and the St. Lucie Inlet. Many listings in the community describe deep-water access with no fixed bridges, and some docks can accommodate larger vessels; dock size, water depth and lift capacity vary by lot, so confirm the details for any home you are considering.
Residents also share a community marina and a clubhouse with a fitness center and social and community rooms.
Lost River Plantation's closest neighbor is Halpatiokee Regional Park, at 8303 SW Lost River Road. It is Martin County's largest park, with about 65 acres of active park land surrounded by roughly 500 acres of preserve and about four miles of frontage on the South Fork. The park offers hiking, mountain biking and paddling trails, a canoe and kayak launch, soccer, football, softball and baseball fields, tennis and pickleball courts, a disc golf course and picnic pavilions. Halpatiokee is a Seminole word meaning "alligator water."
Across the river, Atlantic Ridge Preserve State Park adds miles of protected shoreline, and the beaches of Hutchinson Island and the restaurants and shops of the Downtown Stuart Riverwalk are a short drive away.
Recent MLS listings in Lost River Plantation show the homes assigned to Crystal Lake Elementary School and Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School, part of the Martin County School District. High school assignments can change, so confirm the current zoning for a specific address with the Martin County School District.
As of October 2026, about five homes are for sale in Lost River Plantation, listed from roughly $935,000 to $2.6 million, with an average asking price near $1.56 million and around $480 per square foot. Only a couple of homes closed in the past 12 months, which is typical for a 111-home community where owners tend to stay. When a well-priced waterfront home comes up, it is worth being ready.
